Mexico's Pemex crude oil exports fell 37% on an annual basis in June
According to data released by the company late on Friday, crude oil exports of Mexico's energy state Pemex dropped 37% from June to June last year. Production of liquid hydrocarbons also continued to fall, reaching its lowest level this year.
Reporting a net loss of $14 billion in 2014, the
second quarter
Pemex released its monthly statistics on Friday. It showed that it had exported 754,367 barrels of crude per day in June. This is down from the 910,791 barrels a day in May, but up to 1,203 millions bpd by June 2023.
In June the production of liquid hydrocarbons with partners reached 1.782 millions bpd, which is the lowest in 2024. This compares to 1.785 in May, and 1.889 in June last year.
In June alone, crude oil production was 1,50 million barrels per day, similar to the previous months and at its lowest level in over four decades.
Officials at Pemex have stated that the depletion in key fields has an impact on pumping rates.
Pemex's CEO Octavio Romero said that the company would reduce fuel imports, such as diesel and gasoline as the local refineries processed more crude oil. The new Olmeca refining plant will also be operational soon as well as the two coking factories in Salamanca & Tula.
Pemex announced during its Friday earnings conference that Olmeca will be processing 100,000 barrels per day in July.
The President Andres Manual Lopez Obrador announced Monday that production at the much-anticipated refinery would begin on Saturday. Both the company and the government have previously made similar statements.
In June, the six refineries that are still in use in the country produced an average of 867.615 barrels per day, which is 7.6% higher than the previous month and 3% above the year before. However, this figure falls short of the 1 million barrels per day promised by the government.
Refineries in the United States produced 278,284 barrels per day (bpd) of gasoline, a 4.5% increase over May, and 158.363 bpd diesel, a 9.7% rise from the previous month. The fuel oil production grew 20% to 303.831 bpd in June. Ana Isabel Martinez is reporting, Cassandra Garrison writes and Adriana Barera edits.
