Maersk CEO: Red Sea disruptions will continue in Q3
Maersk, a Danish shipping company, said that disruptions in container shipping via Red Sea will continue through the third quarter.
Maersk, among other shipping companies, has diverted ships around Africa's Cape of Good Hope to avoid attacks from Iran-aligned Houthi terrorists in the Red Sea since December. The longer voyage times have pushed freight rates up.
Maersk issued a statement citing CEO Vincent Clerc's comments at "a recent event online with customers".
We don't yet know how much we will be able to recover from these costs and how long. Clerc explained that the higher rates we're seeing now are temporary.
