Liu Zhiyu, a Chinese double sculler, made it to the semi-finals in the men's Olympic Double Sculls Sunday. He took the last opportunity available during the repechage for him to earn another medal.

The bronze medalist from Tokyo and his new partner Sulitan adilijiang finished third in a four-team race. This was just enough to beat Italy into the semi-finals on Tuesday.

After finishing last in the women's event, Donata Karaline and Dovile rimkute, European silver medalists, were eliminated. Instead, the Netherlands, Norway, and Italy advanced.

As the repechage races began at Vaire-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium, the grey drizzle from Saturday's race was replaced with bright sunshine and temperatures that were climbing.

Joanie Delgaco, of the Phillipines, set the pace in the women's single-sculls race. She recorded a time 7:55 and advanced to the semifinals on Monday.

She will be joined on stage by Thie Hu Fam, Fatemeh Topraghghale and Elis Ozbay from Turkey, Alejandra Alderete of Paraguay and Adriana Sanguineti of Peru.

Isak Ivan Zegelj, of Slovenia, was the leader in men's sculls. He qualified along with Javier Insfran from Paraguay, Quentin Antognelli from Morocco and Balraj Pawar from India. Sid Ali Boudina is an Algerian.

On Sunday, rowing continues with heats for pairs, double lightweight sculls (lightweight sculls) and fours
