India's road ministry looks for tax cuts for flexi-fuel vehicles

India's road transportation ministry advised the financing ministry on Monday to think about lowering taxes on flexiblefuel lorries as part of a. drive to cut carbon emissions in the world's 3rd greatest oil. consuming nation.

Road Transportation Minister Nitin Gadkari said the goods and. services tax (GST) on flexi-fuel automobiles need to be cut to 12%,. which he had currently raised the issue with the financing. minister. At present, flexi-fuel vehicles draw GST of 28%.

Flex engine is the supreme target, Gadkari stated at a. biofuel conference. He said the road transport sector in India. annually produces 300 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.

Flexi-fuel, a mixture of ethanol and fuel, is more affordable. than routine gasoline.

At present, the typical ethanol content in fuel is 15%. and India is on track to raise the mixing to 20% by October. next year, Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated.

He said India is promoting making use of several feedstocks. for ethanol production.

The federal government last week brought back making use of. sugarcane juice or syrup to produce ethanol in the brand-new marketing. year starting Nov. 1, ending curbs enforced in December 2023.
