IAM secures tentative agreement for 4,900 rail freight workers

Posted to Maritime Reporter on March 31, 2025

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, or IAM, announced on Monday that it had reached a tentative agreement with the National Carriers' Conference Committee of America (NCCC), a group representing U.S. freight railways.

This agreement is part of a recent wave in the U.S. rail industry that has seen a number of agreements and ratifications after the Joe Biden Administration called for improved benefits for railroad freight workers.

IAM announced that an electronic ratification will be held between April 25-30.

The tentative agreement includes IAM District 19 at BNSF and Norfolk Southern. It also covers members of Consolidated Rail (Consolidated Rail), Indiana Harbor Belt, New Orleans Public Belt as well as Palmetto Railways.
