Houthis claim two attacks on ships in the Red Sea and Indian Ocean

Posted to Maritime Reporter on June 23, 2024

On Sunday, the Yemeni Houthi Group said that its forces had launched two attacks on ships in the Red Sea as well as the Indian Ocean.

Yahya Saree, a Houthi military spokesperson, said that the first ship, Transworld Navigator was targeted by "an uncrewed boat in the Red Sea" which resulted in a direct strike against the vessel.

He said that the second vessel, Stolt Sequoia was attacked with cruise missiles in the Indian Ocean.

The exact date of the attack was unclear.

He said that the ships were owned by companies who "violated the prohibition on entering the port of occupied Palestine."

Yemen's militant Houthi Group has launched drones and missiles on shipping lanes in November. They claim to be acting in solidarity with Palestinians during Israel's Gaza war.

In dozens attacks, the Houthis sank two ships, captured another, and killed at lease three seafarers.
