Hapag-Lloyd claims it can deal with U.S. - China tariffs

Posted to Maritime Reporter on February 5, 2025

Hapag-Lloyd, a container shipping liner, will be able cope with U.S. Tariffs on Chinese Products. This was the chief executive's message to reporters on Tuesday.

Rolf Habben Jansen, CEO of Rolf Habben Jansen, said that it was too early to panic, in remarks made on Wednesday when the additional 10% tariffs were introduced, but before U.S. president Donald Trump suggested his country take over Gaza Strip.

He said that foreseeable events are easier to manage than unexpected ones. For example, the Red Sea Crisis in November 2023, when Iran-backed Houthi militants attacked vessels passing through the Suez Canal.
