Electricity grid operator: power outage in Rotterdam area has been resolved

Posted to Maritime Reporter on September 3, 2024

The Netherlands' electricity grid operator TenneT reported that a power outage at the Rotterdam Port area affected the major petrochemical industries located there on Tuesday morning for several hours. However, the problem was resolved shortly after 1000 GMT.

TenneT reported that BP’s 400,000 barrels of oil per day refinery in Europe, the second largest refinery in Europe, as well as smaller plants and rail networks, were among the affected plants.

BP didn't immediately respond to a comment request.

Grid operator investigated the cause of the outage that occurred in the area around Europe's largest port, which is home to major oil refineries as well as chemical plants.

The Rotterdam Port said that the outage had not affected traffic.
