Drone attack damages vessel west of Yemen’s Hodeidah

Posted to Maritime Reporter on June 23, 2024

Ambrey, a British security company and United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said that a drone attack damaged a merchant ship 65 nautical miles west from Hodeidah in Yemen.

In an advisory, UKMTO stated that "all crew members have been reported safe and the vessel will be proceeding to its next destination."

Ambrey, in a separate letter, identified the vessel without naming it as "a fully cellular containership flying the flag of Liberia". The statement said that no injuries had been reported.

Yemen's militant Houthi Group has launched drones and missiles on shipping lanes in November. The group claims to be acting in solidarity with Palestinians during Israel's conflict with Hamas militants.

In dozens attacks, the Houthis sank two ships, captured another, and killed atleast three seafarers. (Reporting and editing by William Mallard, Jamie Freed, and Hatem Maher)
