Data shows that TotalEnergies LNG cargo bound for Bangladesh is now heading to Japan

Posted to Maritime Reporter on August 16, 2024

Data showed that a TotalEnergies SE LNG vessel docked in Bangladesh's Chittagong Port for three weeks will now be heading to the Futtsu Port in Japan as the state-run Petrobangla was unable to offload the cargo on the spot.

The ship tracking data from Kpler showed that Seapeak Marib was the vessel carrying cargo near Johor, Malaysia, on Friday. Kpler data indicated that the vessel was heading to Futtsu, Japan.

Petrobangla cited damage to a floating-storage regasification (FSRU) operated in Bangladesh by Summit Group in May as the reason for its inability of offloading the cargo. A source familiar with this matter confirmed that.

The source refused to be identified as he wasn't authorised to comment on the matter. Reporting by Sudarshan Varadhan, Hritam Mukerjee, and Emily Chow. Editing by Toby Chopra
