Data shows that Russia's idle refining capacity was 82% higher in February.
According to calculations based upon data from industry sources, the offline primary oil refinery capacity of Russia in February has been revised up by 82% compared to what was originally planned for this month.
In February, idle primary oil refining capacities are expected to reach 3.4 million metric tonnes. This is up from 2.3 millions tons in January.
Calculations show that the idle refining capacities in February are about 68% higher daily than they were in January 2025 and 23% higher than the same month in last year.
The idle primary oil refinery capacity of Russia in March is estimated at 2,0 million tons. However, this could rise to 2.6 millions tons if the maintenance period is extended.
The increase in idle capacity will result in refineries using less feedstock for fuel production, allowing them to export more crude. David Evans, Editor and Reporter (Reporting)
