Club official: Two Moroccan footballers lost at sea
A club official confirmed that two Moroccan soccer players from the top-flight Ittihad Tanger are missing at sea after their small boat was swept away by strong currents on Saturday.
Five players of the club were cruising in the deep waters off Tangier, when heavy winds and strong currents swept their yacht away.
He said that "three players were already rescued on the Saturday while investigations are still underway for Salman Harraq, Abdellatif Ahrif and other missing players."
He cited the accounts of rescued players who said that they did not have any buoys when they jumped off the small boat to swim.
Mrabet said that while Akhrif is already a member of the squad as a whole, Harraq (18) was on the verge of moving up to the senior squad this year.
Ittihad Tanger has been in the top division of the Moroccan league since 2015. They won their first ever and only title in 2017-18. They have been struggling in the lower half in the rankings in recent years. (Reporting and editing by Christian Radnedge, Tommy Lund and Ahmed Eljechtimi)
