Brokers reported on Wednesday that Ukraine's waterborne food exports in May totaled 5.9 million metric tonnes, including 5.1 millions tons sent through its Black Sea port and 800,000 via the River Danube.

Spike Brokers which tracks and publishes statistics on exports did not provide any comparative data.

Last month, the UGA traders' union reported that maritime food exports for April totaled 6.4 million tonnes.

In a separate press release issued on Wednesday, UGA stated that Ukraine exported via land and sea routes 3.6 million tons corn, 1.65 millions tonnes wheat, 624,000 tonnes sunflower oil, 209,000 tons barley, and 107,000 tonnes soybeans in May.

Ukraine exports approximately 95% of grain via its Black Sea port.

On Wednesday, the Ukrainian Agriculture Ministry announced that grain exports for the 2023/24 marketing season July-June had reached 47.4 millions tons as of June 5, compared to 45.6 million tonnes exported at the same time in 2023.

Ukraine is one of the world's largest grain and oilseed exporters, but since Russian invasion in February 20, 2022, its exports and harvests have decreased.

According to the agriculture ministry, Ukraine has lost around 30% of its total agricultural potential and nearly 20% of land was occupied. (Reporting and editing by Jason Neely; Pavel Polityuk)
