British maritime agencies report an incident off Yemen coast

Posted to Maritime Reporter on August 26, 2024

United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said that it received a report on Monday of an incident 61 miles south-east of Yemen's Mokha.

UKMTO reported the captain of an unmanned surface vessel (USV) in close proximity to his vessel. Two other small boats were also observed, about two nautical miles north of the USV.

Separately, British Security firm Ambrey announced on Monday it was aware of a incident that occurred approximately 80 nautical mile southwest of Yemen’s Aden.

Since November, Houthi militants with an Iranian affiliation have attacked international shipping near Yemen in solidarity to Palestinians in the conflict between Israel and Hamas. (Reporting and editing by Alex Richardson, Hugh Lawson, and Tala Ramadan)
