British Airways will stop flights to Beijing on October 26
British Airways announced on Thursday that it would stop flights from October 26 to November 2025. It did not elaborate on why.
IAG-owned carrier will continue to fly daily between Shanghai and Hong Kong.
The Russian airspace is now off limits to European and British airlines, so flying from Europe to Asia will take a couple of hours more than before. This makes the flight more expensive, and customers less interested.
Lufthansa, for example, said that competition with Chinese airlines, who are permitted to fly in Russian airspace and compete with them, had reduced their profits. Lufthansa also reported falling yields on routes where it is competing with these carriers. Reporting by Joanna Plucinska, Yadarisa Shabbong and Emelia Sithole Matarise. Editing by David Goodman.
