Blake Horvath, a year after watching as Navy was humiliated by Army in a heartbreaking fashion, led the Midshipmen's 31-13 win over the No. On Saturday, the 22 Black Knights played in Landover, Md.
Horvath scored two touchdowns rushing and two passing. The junior quarterback ran 25 times for 204 yard as Navy (9-3), snapped a 2-game losing streak, won the 125th edition.
The Midshipmen won the annual Commander-in Chief's Trophy for the school that had the best inter-service academy record.
Navy improved its series record to 63-55-7 with President-elect Donald Trump present.
After the game, Navy's second year coach Brian Newberry stated: "We still have a football squad in Annapolis."
Army (11-2), which had a week off, was coming off of a 35-14 win over Tulane last week in the American Athletic Conference Championship game.
The Black Knights were the leading Division I rushing team, with an average of 314.4 yards per match. The Midshipmen held them to just 113 yards in 39 carries.
Landon Robinson, the Navy's defensive leader with 13 tackles and one forced fumble, led his team. Robinson, who is 6 feet tall and 285 pounds, also ran 29 yard on a fake kick, setting up the fourth-quarter clinching touchdown.
Army quarterback Bryson daily, who had 1,480 rushing yard and 29 rushing TDs when he entered the game, ran 19 times, for 52 yards, a season low. He also threw 3 interceptions, after starting the game with only one.
Horvath was the dominant player in this game. He was the Midshipmen's starting quarterback in the middle last year, but suffered an injury which forced him to miss the final play of the 17-11 loss.
Horvath led Navy's first offensive drive on Saturday. He drove 65 yards to a touchdown, which he finished with a diving score of 1 yard. Navy was now 7-0 up.
After a run-fake, Horvath made a throw to Brandon Chatman who was wide open after an early second-quarter interception by Navy's Dashaun Peele. The Midshipmen took a 14-0 advantage.
Army responded with a similar play, cutting the deficit in half. Daily faked a QB draw, stepped forward and threw an 23-yard jump to Hayden Reed to score a touchdown.
The Midshipmen responded quickly after Army's Trey Gronotte kicked an 39-yard field goals to reduce Navy's lead from 14-10 to 10-14 in the third quarter.
Eli Heidenreich, who caught the pass in the flat and slipped past a defender, ran up the sideline before diving into the endzone on a 52 yard play, gave the Midshipmen a 21-10 lead.
Navy snuffed out Army's hopes in the final nine minute as Luke Pirris had two interceptions and Kenneth McShan also had one.
