Posted to Maritime Reporter on August 2, 2024

When Sarah Steyaert, a French woman skiff sailor and Charline Pichon returned to shore after winning Olympic Bronze on Friday their partners proposed.

Steyaert & Picon were both "oui", as their partners said, while they shared an emotional moment with their families at a nearby bar.

Jean-Emmanuel Mestre, Picon's partner, said: "She intends to retire from sport now." Their young daughter Lou added:

The French sailors were unable to reproduce their speed in lighter wind conditions and, after making a mistake at the start of the medals race, they never recovered the gold position. They had to settle for the bronze in terms of overall points.

The 'Mama Team,' as they were called by their fans and families in France, received a warm welcome from the French people when they landed. They sang and blew horns to celebrate this achievement. Alexander Smith, Sharon Singleton (Editing)
