A US Navy sailor attempted to access Biden’s health records

Posted to Maritime Reporter on July 9, 2024

The Navy confirmed on Tuesday that a U.S. Navy Sailor attempted to access President Joe Biden’s health records “out of curiosity” but failed. Biden’s medical records had never been compromised.

The Navy released a statement in which it said that, in February, a sailor was reported to have tried to search for "Joe Biden", in the electronic health records system of the military.

An anonymous U.S. official in the defense department said that the sailor attempted to access the records at least three times over the course of several hours.

The statement said that "the record the sailor access was not an electronic record of President of the United States...(the) system (is a secure healthcare system and at any time, the President's private information was never compromised."

The Navy completed its investigation in April after a coworker reported the attempt. The sailor received an administrative punishment but remains in the Navy.

Biden has been criticized by some Democrats who claim he does not have the mental ability to be their nominee in the presidential election on Nov. 5. Biden, however, has said that he won't abandon his campaign. He told MSNBC over the phone on Monday, "I am not going anywhere". (Reporting and editing by Idrees Al and Phil Stewart)
