Container Shippers Resume Iranian Port Calls
With U.S. sanctions on Iran expected to be lifted within the coming months, several container shipping lines have resumed calling the country in the second half of 2015. DHT Takes Delivery of VLCC Newbuild
Crude oil tanker shipper DHT Holdings, Inc. has today taken delivery of a newly built 299,900 dwt very large crude carrier (VLCC) from Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries. The new ship, DHT Leopard, will enter the spot market as the second vessel in a series of six fully funded VLCC newbuilds to be delivered to DHT from November 2015 to October 2016. The first ship in the series, DHT Jaguar, was delivered November 23, 2015. The next newbuild is scheduled for delivery in early April 2016.

Twelve Saved from Sinking Freighter in Cuban Waters
The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) rescued 12 people from a freighter vessel taking on water in Cuban territorial seas Saturday. The rescue, performed by two USCG helicopter crews, saved one Jamaican, two Nicaraguan, one U.S., and eight Haitian crewmembers. On Saturday, Coast Guard watchstanders were notified that the Haitian Flagged, 120-ft coastal freighter Granam ST Anne was taking on water in Cuban territorial seas, and ordered the launch of two helicopters.

G6 Alliance to Maintain Service Structure through 2016
Container shippers of the G6 alliance intend to maintain current service structure and operate as aligned through 2016, following news of CMA-CGM’s potential takeover of Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) announced earlier this week. Singapore-based NOL, parent company G6 member APL, said it will continue to operate as normal as its acquisition remains subject to regulatory approvals expected in the later part of next year.

Odfjell Elects Klaus Nyborg Director of the Board
Odfjell SE’s Extraordinary General Meeting, held December 9, 2015, supported the Nomination Committee's proposal and elected Klaus Nyborg as new director of the Board. Nyborg, a Danish citizen, owns no shares in Odfjell SE and has no formal ties to major shareholders of the company, according to Odfjell. Palfinger Equipment Package for Kreuz Subsea’s New Vessel
Palfinger Marine has been contracted to deliver lifesaving equipment and a winch package for Kreuz Subsea’s newbuild vessel, a Vard 317 design. The vessel for the Singapore-based integrated offshore subsea service provider Kreuz Subsea is designed and constructed by Vard. The DP2 class vessel, with a total length of 91.2 meters a beam of 21.5 meters, is prepared for remote operating vehicles (ROVs) and will be used to for diving support and subsea construction duties.

Video: Navy's New Destroyer Underway
The future USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000) has departed departed Bath Iron Works to set sail for the first time, conducting at-sea tests and trials in the Atlantic Ocean, Dec. Morocco, Indonesia Ratify BWM Convention
Morocco and Indonesia have become the latest nations to ratify the Ballast Water Management (BWM) Convention, an international measure adopted in 2004 for environmental protection that requires ships to have procedures in place for ballast water management in order to help prevent the spread of harmful and invasive aquatic species.
