US Navy CNO Casts Eye on NNS Warship Construction
Huntington Ingalls Industries' Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division hosted the Chief of Naval Operations for a tour of the shipyard. Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan W. Greenert was briefed on the shipyard's current work and capabilities and met with shipbuilders. The admiral also toured the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) to see the progress being made on the first-of-class ship and the advancements in shipbuilding enabled by 3-D modeling and design/build strategies.

'Miraculous' Rescue of Man Overboard
Swiber Holdings' tugboat 'Swiber Charlton' fortuitously picked up a Thai man floating in open water 'twixt Vietnam & Singapore. “Swiber Charlton” was on its way back from Vung Tau, Vietnam to Singapore when the crew spotted at a far distance, a man floating but alive, in the open waters of the South China Sea. The vessel closed, a lifebuoy was thrown to him, and the survivor was brought up on the deck where he was quickly administered first aid.

Austal christening of 'USNS Choctaw County' (JHSV 2) at its Mobile, Alabama shipyard, the second of a nine-ship US$1.6-billion contract with US Navy. The ship was named Choctaw County to honor the contributions of the men and women of rural America. Three counties in America, located in Mississippi, Alabama, and Oklahoma, share the name. The ceremony was held in Austal’s final assembly bay under the ship with over 600 guests in attendance.
