Thoma-Sea Launches Two TAI Designed Ships

Technology Associates, Inc. (TAI) of New Orleans, La., announced that two derivatives of vessels built from TAI’s EnviroMax designs were both launched this week. Another EnviroMax OSV built from its design was also delivered a week earlier.

Thoma-Sea Shipbuilders, has launched the Regulus, a DP 2, FiFi I Offshore Supply Vessel from its Houma, La. shipyard on May 27. The 272' OSV was built to service deep water oil and gas exploration. The vessel has two 2,000 kW Z-drives and two 850kw bow thrusters powered by a total installed power of 7.35 MW. The vessel can carry a maximum deadweight of 3,650 LT and can achieve a maximum speed of 14 knots. The owner of this vessel is GulfMark Offshore.

From its Lockport, La. shipyard, Thoma-Sea launched the Fugro Americas, a 193' state of the art offshore Geotechnical Survey vessel on May 29. The vessel is equipped with state-of-the art geotechnical and hydrographic survey equipment, spacious instrument and processing rooms, dynamic positioning system, and a HiPAP 500 acoustic positioning system. The vessel also has stabilizer tanks, and is equipped with two 20 MT A-frames that can handle a range of geotechnical equipment, and remotely operated Autonomous Underwater Vehicles to support modern survey operations. The vessel’s hull was extensively optimized using CFD analyses and model testing for sea keeping performance and bubble sweep down. The owner of this vessel is Fugro Americas.

Immediately prior to this, a 295', 5,300 DWT, Harvey Condor DP2, OSV also from a TAI EnviroMax design was delivered by Thoma-Sea to Harvey Gulf International Marine, LLC.

According to TAI, all of the above designs are technologically advanced, fuel efficient, optimized, dynamically positioned, Diesel Electric vessels, and derivatives of TAI’s EnviroMax series of designs, which have been licensed by TAI to Thoma-Sea. The EnviroMax designs offer maximum cargo carriage and minimized fuel consumption capabilities. Another series of 6,300 DWT ton displacement OSVs from the Technology EnviroMax designs are also under construction for a Major World Wide Operator.
