Van der Velden Marine Systems at SMM 2014

August 11, 2014

Van der Velden Marine Systems BV, specialist in the field of manoeuvring and propulsion efficiency, will exhibit at the SMM 2014 International Trade Fair in Hamburg, which will be held from 9 until 12 September. Van der Velden can be found at stand Hall A4 – booth 208.

The stand will display models of several rudders and shows on a touch screen a highly sophisticated digital 3D presentation of the latest innovative developments brought to the market. The latest innovative developments include two products for the market of Oceangoing vessels (BOSS and ESPAC) and one especially developed for the Inland Waterways (Van der Velden Flex Tunnel System).

BOSS - Barke Optimized Steering
Sensational real-time tool to get the best out of your advanced rudder system. To optimise manoeuvrability when steering manually or automatically,  BOSS is able to calculate the rudder forces by measuring the bending of the rudder stock. The measured values are displayed on a touch panel on the bridge.

ESPAC - (Energy Saving Pack)

The natural answer to your real life demand for energy saving and cavitation reduction in the operational profile. The ESPAC consists of a propulsion package which is tailor-made to meet customer requirements. The ESPAC is currently available for fixed pitch propeller systems by MMG, in combination with Van der Velden full spade rudders. Both new designs and refit projects are possible.

Van der Velden - Flex Tunnel System
The solution for efficient hull design without compromising for exceptional sailing conditions. The FLEX tunnel offers major benefits in terms of speed, loading capacity, manoeuvrability and reduced fuel consumption. The starting concept behind the Van der Velden FLEX tunnel is its ability to retract.  With the tunnel embedded into the hull of the vessel, resistance is lowered and efficiency increased. When sailing in shallow waters the FLEX tunnel is deployed to ensure sufficient water flow to the propellers and maintain their efficiency.
