“It is difficult to overestimate the significance of today's event for our team,” said Buzakov. “Raising the flag on Kolpino means that Admiralty honorably completed the construction of a series of six submarines, and we are pleased to know that the Black Sea fleet submarine revived. This work has become a good platform for the next start, the construction of a new series of Project 636 submarines to the Pacific Fleet.”
A landmark event for the Naval Fleet of Russia called the rise of the flag on the submarine Kolpino, Korolev said, “Admiralty Shipyard has built world-class vessels, and we have much to be proud of. A series of six submarines, with high reliability, manageability and modern weapons, will more effectively meet the challenges facing the Black Sea fleet. Today the Ministry of Defense pays great attention to the development of non-nuclear submarine fleet, and Admiralty Shipyards has excellent prospects in the creation of new submarines, including on the basis of air-independent power plants.”
Construction on submarine Kolpino began in October 2014, and it was launched in May 2016. Its construction was a milestone in the realization of a long-term plan of the Ministry of Defense alert restore Russia's Black Sea Fleet, and programs to improve the diesel-electric submarines for Navy fleet of Russia.
At the direction of the Russian Federation CDB Rubin Defense Ministry upgraded the basic system of the ship basic design 636: in particular, a complex of torpedo-missile systems, management information systems, radar and sonar systems. A number of improvements in general ship systems were introduced to improve the stealth submarine and improvement of living conditions for the crew.
Construction of the submarine series for the Black Sea fleet ran at Admiralty Shipyards for six years, from August 2010 to November 2016. Starting from 2014, the company began delivering two ships a year to the Russian Navy, with the first two submarines, Novorossiysk and Rostov-on-Don, joining the Navy in August and December 2014. The third and fourth, Stary Oskol and Krasnodar, were transferred to the Black Sea fleet in July and November 2015. The fifth, The Great Novgorod, was delivered in October 2016.
According to the builder, submarines modified 636 project have a higher combat effectiveness compared to previous projects. The global priority of this class of ships in the field of non-nuclear submarines provide optimum combination of acoustic stealth and target detection range; the latest inertial navigation system; modern automated information management system; powerful high-speed torpedo-missile weapons.
In October 2016, JSC Admiralty Shipyards has started construction of a new series of six submarines 636.3 draft boats for the Russian Pacific fleet.
