When it came time to retire the iconic Maid of the Mist Niagara Falls tour boats, Hornblower Niagara Cruises sought replacements that would raise the standard of forward-thinking performance, without sacrificing safety.

The two new 86' x 36' catamarans built by Hike Metal, christened Niagara Wonder and Niagara Thunder, each has a capacity of 700 passengers and navigates the churning, rock-strewn waters 6,000 times a year.  Featured aboard the vessels is Sea-Fire's FireStop Detection System and H-Series Engineered Fire Suppression.

Custom designed, the integrated FireStop system continually monitors cylinder pressure, fire, heat, smoke and carbon monoxide and provides early warning notification. FireStop can automatically shut down engine and ventilation systems upon suppression discharge. The heart of this highly adaptable system is the FireStop Control Panel that allows for up to seven relay circuits and is powered by two separate battery banks. As a modular system, it can be expanded to accommodate a wide range of applications.

USCG approved and BV certified, the Sea-Fire H-Series system is custom engineered for each project and can protect a wide range of areas, from 1,500 to 17,500 cu. ft. "A Sea-Fire system was chosen to protect our passengers and crew," said Roger Nugent, Hornblower Niagara Cruises' senior manager of marine services. "When thousands of people are trusting you with their safety each and every day, there is no room for compromise. And our crew, who know that the system is in place, hidden from view, feel safer and more secure."
