PALFINGER to Equip Nexans’ New Cable Layer
Nexans high-end cable laying vessel (CLV) Aurora is developed for operations in rough weather and has high maneuverability and station keeping capabilities. Ulstein Verft will construct the vessel and prepare for the topside equipment, the vessel is designed by Skipsteknisk in Ålesund. The CLV is 31 m wide, 149.9 m long, with a deadweight of 17,000 metric tons, and can accommodate 90 people.
For this advanced cable laying vessel, which has a turntable with a large cable capacity of 10,000 metric tons, PALFINGER MARINE has been chosen to deliver a major deck equipment package consisting of Abandon and Recovery (A&R) winches, A-Frame, knuckle boom cranes and overhead travelling gantry cranes.
PALFINGER MARINE’s scope of delivery to Ulstein Verft AS includes:
- One (1) off 150 t A-Frame
- Two (2) off 75 t Active Heave Compensated Abandon and Recovery (A&R) Winches, each with 2500 meter steel wire
- Two (2) off 37,5 t Auxiliary Abandon and Recovery (A&R) Winches
- Two (2) off 5 t Overhead Travelling Gantry Cranes
- Two (2) off DKF500 Offshore Knuckle Boom Cranes (10 t @ 30 meter)
- One (1) DKT500 Offshore Telescopic Boom Crane (20 t @ 15 meter)

The equipment will be delivered to Ulstein Verft until end of 2020.
