MDL Back in North Sea with i-Tech 7

August 15, 2019

Maritime Developments (MDL), a provider of back-deck equipment for the subsea sector, has completed a flexible installation project in the North Sea with i-Tech 7, Subsea 7's Life of Field business unit – marking a return to the field two years after the original award.

The work scope – part of i-Tech 7’s inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) campaign West of Shetland - consisted of a deployment of a jumper using an MDL horizontal spread.

The 2-track pipelay tensioner, second-generation reel drive system, deck deflectors and an over-boarding chute were mobilized on the same offshore supply vessel (OSV) as in 2017.

Greig May, MDL Rental Projects Manager, said: "This project is a great example of how a partnership approach between the different parties involved in a campaign can benefit the mission."

“Both i-Tech 7 and the end client were keen to replicate the MDL solution from two years prior, to reduce the costs associated with sea-fastening design, as the same vessel was being deployed on both projects," he added.

“Prior experience and familiarity with the vessel, mobilization port and project teams also facilitated efficient execution on MDL’s side, in terms of equipment and personnel scheduling, logistics and mobilization. We hope to support i-Tech 7 on more projects in the future to further maximize the above benefits,” Greig said.
