Mitsubishi Installs Marine SOx Scrubbers
Mitsubishi Shipbuilding announced that its DIA-SOx R, , the marine SOx scrubbers, installed on two ultra large containerships recently gained approvals from the the flag states.The first 2 units of the scrubber retrofitted onboard ultra-large container ships got approvals from the classification societies, Lloyd's Register and Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, respectively after confirmation of the excellent result of sea trials and consequently also got approvals from the Flag States, Panama and Singapore.Those 2 ships, whilst continuously using the existing heavy fuel oil, can conform the new SOx emission regulation requirement even after being strengthened as from January 1…
DP World to Invest $500 in Jeddah Port Upgrade
The global port operator DP World has been awarded a 30-year Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) concession by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), for the management and development of the Jeddah South Container Terminal at the multi-purpose Jeddah Islamic Port.According to a press release from the UAE-based world leader in global supply chain solutions, under the agreement, DP World will invest up to $500 million to improve and modernize the Jeddah Islamic Port, including major infrastructure development to enable the Port to serve the ultra-large container carriers (ULCC’s), which are considered the world’s largest mega containerships.Established in 1976, the Jeddah Islamic Port is on the red sea and the largest port in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with annual volumes of over 6 million TEU’s.
ABS, DSME to Develop Next Gen VLCC, ULCS
ABS, a global provider of classification and technical advisory services, and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. (DSME) have signed a joint development project (JDP) agreement to explore decarbonization and digitalization strategies for Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC) and Ultra Large Container Ships (ULCS).A press release from ABS quoted Patrick Ryan, ABS Senior Vice President, Global Engineering and Technology as saying: "ABS is assisting leading shipping lines with evaluation of their decarbonization and digital strategies all over the world. MOL Gets AiP for Containership Bow Wind-Shield
Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) announced that, DNVGL issued an Approval In Principle (AIP) to MOL and Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for Bow Wind-Shield designed for Ultra-Large Container Carrier on 30th October, 2019.This newly developed Bow Wind-Shield reduces the wind resistance on hull body of while ship is running, and it is expected CO2 reduction up to about 2–4% owing to optimal design for Ultra-Large Container Carrier. This is based on the technology of both company MOL and SHI.MOL has developed and installed bow wind shield on exiting middle-size containership in 2015, and confirmed CO2 reduction by about 2% in real-running condition in 2017.SHI also has developed bow wind shield for Ultra-large Container Carrier.Introducing both companies' technology…
