St. Johns Wins USACE Barge Contract
St. Johns Ship Building this week announced a deal with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to construct two (2) 140' x 32' x 7' Stop Log Barges. St. Johns Ship Building (SJSB) is working to attract the next generation of skilled shipyard workers.The Palatka, Fla. shipbuilder announced it has introduced a comprehensive vocational training program designed to cultivate a variety of sought-after marine and shipbuilding crafts and trades. The program will be progressively rolled out, with each stage focusing on different skill sets and timeframes.The initial six-week course aims to provide workers with the essential skills required in the industry.

Canada's New Oil Spill Response Boats Powered by Scania
Engine manufacturer Scania said it has been selected by the Western Canada Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC) to power four 52-foot oil spill response landing crafts.Currently in production by family-owned Burlington, Wash welded aluminum boat manufacturer the William E. Munson Company, the vessels are powered by twin keel-cooled 750 HP Scania DI13-liter 088M engines with Twin Disc 5095 marine gearboxes, supplied by distributor Cascade Engine Center. Propulsion is provided by Hamilton 403 waterjets. This combination offers a top speed of 35 knots at full power.

109 Vessels vessels with a capacity of 6000 passengers ready for Nowruz, the Iranian New Year, also known as the Persian New Year.“800 hundred executives providing 24-hour services in Marine Travel Facility plan during Nowruz” said Allah Morad Afifipour, Director General of Ports and Maritime of Hormozgan.Afifipour said in a statement that there are 49 passenger vessels with 5,361 seats and 59 landing craft with caspacity of 1,960 vehicles.Of these, four thousand and 90 seats are available in the port of Shahid Haghani and majority o9f landing crafts are in Bandar-e-Pul and Lahat.This Nowruz is the second year in which guests take on board, and this is welcomed by Marine guests.
Babcock JV Secures $1.5b Australian DFS Program Contract
Naval Ship Management (NSM), an existing joint venture between Babcock and UGL, has been awarded the support and sustainment program for two Landing Helicopter Docks (LHDs) at the Garden Island Defence Precinct in NSW, following a competitive bidding process.The announcement made today by the Australian Minister for Defence, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, confirmed NSM was selected by the Australian Defence Force to sustain and support two LHDs and twelve LHD Landing Crafts (LLCs) for a period of 15 years.
ABCO Industries to Build New Arctic, Offshore Patrol Ships
Irving Shipbuilding, Canada’s National Shipbuilder, has awarded an $8.9 million contract to ABCO Industries Limited (ABCO) for the design and construction of 12 metre landing craft for the Royal Canadian Navy’s Harry DeWolf-class Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS). Halifax Shipyard is constructing up to six AOPS as part of the Government of Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS). Each AOPS will have one custom designed 12m landing craft onboard. SJSB Launches Caribbean Landing Craft
Florida based shipbuilder St. Johns Ship Building (SJSB) launched a newly built 190-foot landing craft vessel for owner Bahamas Ferries on July 28. Designed for transport in the Bahamian islands, the vessel the Grand Master II is outfitted for Caribbean transport with a forward, hydraulic bow ramp and 6,400 square feet of cargo space. Twin 700 HP Cummings QSK19 with Schottel rudder propellers power the Grand Master II. The vessel will also include a 22 inch electric Westmar bow thruster and two 99 KW John Deer generators.

Palatka, Fla. shipbuilder St. Johns Ship Building (SJSB) said it is currently constructing the first of three new vessels in a series of 190 foot landing crafts for a Caribbean group. This vessel will be powered by twin 700 HP Cummings QSK19 with Schottel rudder propellers. The vessel will also include a 22 inch electric Westmar bow thruster, a hydraulic bow ramp and two 99 KW John Deer generators. This landing craft features open deck with 6400 square feet of cargo space. A raised two story deck house on the aft of the vessel allows for unimpeded cargo room from the bow to stern.

France-Russia Warships in the Crossroads
France has to make a crucial decision which will have far-reaching consequences. Whether to deliver two Mistral ships to Russia (which were originally earmarked for the Russian Navy) and face the anger of its NATO allies OR to terminate the Mistral deal, paying a heavy price and further deteriorating its economy. Currently, the biggest problem that France faces is in the form of European dimension - that is the embargo to Russia. France has received an order for two Mistral class amphibious assault ships; it was paid for the first, which now is ready for delivery and already received $1.3 billion. The second warship in under construction while there has been discussions for the possible order of a third one.
Heavy Cargo Barge 'Prometheus' Launched at Gunderson Yard
Brokers Marcon International were in attendance and inform of the launch of the 300’ x 100’ x 20’ heavy deck cargo barge “Prometheus” (Hull No. 104) built and designed by Gunderson Marine, Portland, Oregon, for Ulysses LLC. The new barge was christened by Mimsy Huger Lindner and promptly and safely launched to the sound of the swirling bagpipes of the Clan Macleay Pipe Band. “Prometheus” is a double raked ABS +A1 Barge with recessed bitts, a parabolic bow rake and about a 29,572ft2 clear deck.
AKA Contracted for Diesel-Electric Propulsion System
Aspin Kemp & Associates (AKA) was awarded a contract to supply a Diesel-Electric Power and Propulsion System for Bhagwan Marine’s Dive Support Vessel (DSV) that will be constructed in Singapore. With headquarters in Western Australia, Bhagwan Marine services the oil and gas industry with its fleet of support vessels and landing crafts. Designed by Australian naval architects, Incat Crowther, the vessel will be a 56-meter, fully integrated catamaran that will perform key duties such as Dive Support, Geotechnical Survey, Cargo Transport and Safety Standby.

Ingalls Shipbuilding Cuts First Plate for USN's LPD 27
The ship, under construction at Ingalls Shipbuilding division, is the 11th ship in the 'USS San Antonio' (LPD 17) class of ships. On July 27 2012 Ingalls was awarded a US$1.5-billion contract to build LPD 27. The start of fabrication milestone marks the first 100 tons of steel being cut for units on the LPD 27. The next major event is keel laying, currently scheduled for second quarter of 2013, and delivery of LPD 27 is scheduled for mid-2017. Six of LPD 27's sister ships, LPDs 17-22, have been delivered to the Navy while LPDs 23-26 are in various stages of construction.
Ingalls Shipbuilding Contracted to Build Eleventh LPD
The U.S. Navy awards Huntington Ingalls Industries a US$1.5-billion fixed-price incentive contract for amphibious transport dock LPD 27. The contract is for the detail design and construction of the amphibious transport dock LPD 27 and it will be built at the company's Ingalls Shipbuilding division. Ingalls is building the entire San Antonio (LPD 17) class of ships, the newest addition to the Navy's 21st century amphibious assault force. LPDs are built to be survivable and flexible.
Ingalls-built LPD 23 Completes Acceptance Trials
The amphibious transport dock Anchorage (LPD 23) currently under construction at Ingalls' Avondale facility has returned from a three-day testing voyage in the Gulf of Mexico following rigorous testing of most of the ship's systems. The ship is the seventh in the LPD 17 class. During the five-day acceptance trial evolution on land and at sea, the U.S. Navy's Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) observed more than 220 test events demonstrated on the ship by Ingalls' test and trials team.
