The containership Ever Forward has been refloated after more than a month aground in the Chesapeake Bay, near the Port of Baltimore. Navis Solution on Evergreen Newbuilds

Navis, the provider of maritime software solutions for cargo and vessel performance and compliance,  announced that its MACS3 loading computer will be installed on two newbuilding series of container vessels owned and operated by Taiwan-based Evergreen Marine Corporation.Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation, said that due to the owner’s decision to have this loading computer installed, they are moving to support safer and more effective onboard cargo handling.The newbuildings are currently being built at two different Chinese shipyards. Ship Finance International Signs USD 400 mln Leaseback Deal for Four Vessels

Bermuda-based shipowner Ship Finance International (SFL) has entered into lease financing agreements totaling $400 million with an Asian-based institution to finance four 14,000 TEU container vessels acquired in May 2018.According to a press release, the vessels are employed under long term time charters to Evergreen Marine Corporation (Taiwan) until 2024, with options to extend the charters by 18 additional months.Each Lease Financing has a term of nearly nine years, with an option to purchase the vessel back after six years, around expiry of the firm period of the charters to Evergreen. Norway SWF Dumps 3 Shipping Firms

The Norwegian Central Bank  has decided to exclude ship owners Evergreen Marine Corporation, Precious Shipping, Korea Line Corporation and Thorensen Thai Agencies from the Government Pension Fund Global (GPFG). The exclusion is based on the companies’ poor management of their end-of-life ships and the sale of these for dirty and dangerous shipbreaking on the beaches of Gadani, Pakistan and Chittagong, Bangladesh. The Norwegian Council on Ethics directs the Norwegian Central Bank, which manages the Government Pension Fund Global, on which companies should be excluded from investments in the fund, based on human rights and humanitarian violations, corruption and environmental degradation records.

Another Hurdle for The Ocean Alliance

Commissioner William P. Doyle of the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission today voted in favor of requesting additional information from The Ocean Alliance parties. The Request for Additional Information (RFAI) effectively stops the clock on the agreement until such time as the filing parties answer the questions proposed in the RFAI. Once those questions are answered and filed with the Commission, a new 45-day clock commences. This Ocean Alliance agreement was filed with the Commission on July 15, 2016, and would have become effective on August 29, 2016, absent Commission action.

Chang Leaves Evergreen

Evergreen Marine Corporation said that Chang Kuo-wei, the late founder's son, was no longer on its board of directors, reports local media. Chang's seat on its board of directors will be filled by Hsieh Huey-chuan. According to observers, the Chang Kuo-wei faced the latest setback in his losing war of succession when he left the board of Evergreen International Storage & Transport Corp. Evergreen International Storage, one of Evergreen Group’s publicly traded businesses, announced a reassignment of its corporate directors and supervisors. The shipping firm said Chang had been replaced with Wei Mao-chun, general manager of Evergreen International Storage & Transport Corp.

Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou honored Evergreen Group founder Dr. Chang Yung-Fa with a posthumous commendation in recognition of his contributions to international transportation and social welfare during the memorial service today. The company's North America headquarters are in Jersey City, N.J. Taiwan's Education Minister and the Minister of Transportation and Communications also offered homage to Dr. Chang with the First-Class Professional Education Medal and First-Class Professional Transportation Medal. Evergreen Group Chairman Dies at 88

Evergreen Group founder and Group Chairman Dr. Yung-Fa Chang passed away at the age of 88 in Taipei on January 20, 2016. Dr. Chang was born in 1927. He founded Evergreen Marine Corporation in 1968 with just one secondhand general cargo vessel, and by 1985, the company had become the world's largest container shipping line. In 1989 he established EVA Air, extending his global business empire from shipping to airline and land transportation. Dr. Chang devoted much of his efforts to charity and social welfare, primarily through the Chang Yung-Fa Foundation.

Container Ship and LPG Tanker Collide near Surabaya

LPG tanker Navigator Aries (23,333 dwt, built 2008), and containership Leo Perdana (33,423 dwt, built 2007) collided yesterday in waters off Gresik, nearby the Port of Tunjung Perak in Surabaya, Indonesia. The collision caused a fire on the 2008-built tanker, which was quickly put out by the crew. The tanker, owned by Navigator Gas, suffered a 5-meter breach on its port side. The tanker suffered large breach in the port side and caught fire, which was quickly extinguished. During the collision there were no injured crew, but both ships were seriously damages and small quantity of fuel spilled into the water. Four tugs were dispatched at the scene of the accident and towed the Navigator Aries to anchorage on 10 nautical miles off Gresik.

Evergreen Naming Ceremony for EVER LUNAR

Evergreen Group held the naming ceremony for EVER LUNAR today, the seventh of its L-type vessels to be built by CSBC Corporation in Taiwan. The ceremony, which was officiated by Ms. Lee-Ching Ko, Second Vice Group Chairman of Evergreen Group, took place at CSBC's Kaohsiung shipyard. The official rope-cutting of the new 8,508 TEU vessel was performed by Mrs. Lin, Mei-Chun. EVER LUNAR is owned by Evergreen Marine Corporation (Taiwan) Ltd. The ship is 334.8 meters in length, 45.8 meters wide and has a draft of 14.2 meters. In common with its L-type sister ships, EVER LUNAR can cruise at speeds up to 24.5 knots. The ship will be delivered into service in January and join Evergreen Line's Far East - Arabian Persian Gulf (APG) Service.

Evergreen Group Orders Ten 8000 TEU vessels

Evergreen Group has placed orders with Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd in Taipei for ten 8,000-TEU L-class environmentally advanced container vessels. The first vessel is due for delivery in 2012 and will join Evergreen Line global containership fleet. Six of the new vessels will be built for Evergreen Marine Corporation and four for Evergreen International S.A. (Panama). The ships are being built at a cost of $103m each. The new ships will be constructed under the innovative Greenship design concept developed by Evergreen Group Chairman Dr. Chang Yung-Fa nearly 10 years ago and first introduced in 2003. The highly developed features have been built into every Evergreen Line vessel since then. The Greenship program has taken environmental protection and compliance to a superior level.

Columbia River Mystery Spill Settled

The Washington State Department of Ecology issued a News Release stating that the Evergreen Marine Corporation has agreed to pay more than $130,900 to settle a penalty and other assessments related to a March 2001 oil spill into the Columbia River. Approximately 500 gallons of oily waste was found in the river in the vicinity of Kalama and was attributed to the M/V Ever Group. Source: HK Law

ABS Certifies Container Giant Evergreen To ISPS Code With Issuance of ISSC

ABS has certified the first Evergreen Marine Corporation (Taiwan) Ltd. containership to the IMO’s International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code) The International Ship Security Certificate (ISSC) is the first of what is expected to be a fleet-wide conformance to the Code’s provision well in advance of the July 2004 implementation date. The ISSC was issued by ABS to Evergreen’s 1,164 teu, Hong Kong flag container ship the MV Uni Accord. According to Capt. Evergreen Restructures and Consolidates

On Dec. 30, 2008, Evergreen Shipping Agency (America), agents for Evergreen Marine Corporation, announced that the company will consolidate some North America offices and reduce staff in order to deal with the downturn in ocean shipping business due to the worldwide financial crisis. Evergreen Line had previously announced capacity reductions on several trade lanes. "The worldwide economic turmoil has created a situation we have not seen in our lifetimes," the company said in the statement to all North America employees. The measures being taken will reduce costs and put EGA on a more sustainable structure moving forward. Offices impacted will include Baltimore, Charleston, Chicago, Norfolk and Toronto. The Salt Lake City office will close and the work will be assigned to Dallas.

Global carrier Evergreen Marine Corporation (Taiwan) Ltd. announced the promotion of its President Jack Yen to Vice Chairman. Captain C.J. Wang, Chief Executive Vice President, has been appointed President. Anchor Chang, Executive Vice President of International Business Division, was promoted to Chief Executive Vice President. Jack Yen joined Evergreen in 1978. He has broad international experience having served the company in several significant locations including Germany, the UK, the U.S., and Hong Kong. His senior positions have included President of Evergreen Star Hong Kong Ltd where he had major responsibilities for the mainland China market, and president of Evergreen Deutschland GMBH.
