Crowley ATB Equipped with Markey Mooring Winches

Markey Machine said it recently won an order for a set of split mooring winches and an anchor windlass to be installed on board one of Crowley’s ATB barges Oliver Leavitt. The winches replaced a set of electric mooring winches.The ATB, including tug Aveogan, was constructed at the Bollinger Marine Fabricators facility in Amelia, La., and delivered to Crowley in 2020. Crowley operates the ATB under a long-term charter for Alaska-based Petro Star Inc.The decision in Markey’s favor was “operations-based: tied to historic performance,” Crowley reported.

Port of Portland Seeking Bids to Build New Dredge Tender

The Port of Portland, in Oregon, is soliciting proposals from U.S. shipyards for the construction of a new dredge tender to replace the decades old W.L. Williams.Designed by Glosten, the new vessel will be a 69-foot-long, twin-screw, multipurpose vessel powered by two Caterpillar Inc. C18 EPA Tier 3 engines. Bids are due by August 30.The tender will mainly be used for towing dredge discharge pipeline strings, pushing barges, and towing barges in support of the port’s dredging operations.

Kongsberg to Deliver Large Electric Winch Package for JFK Trawler

Kongsberg Maritime said it has signed a contract with Turkish shipbuilder Tersan Shipyard to equip an 86-meter stern trawler with a large winch package for Faroe Islands fishing fleet operator JFK.The package will include four EasyDRIVE electric trawl winches with SmartPΩWER Permanent Magnet (PM) motors. New Catamaran Ferry for South Korea Launched

A newly built 50-meter high-speed catamaran passenger ferry for Seaspovill of South Korea, SeaStar 11, has been launched at Austal Limited’s shipyard in the Philippines. Austal said it was awarded the A$16 million (US$12.1 million) contract to build the Incat Crowther designed catamaran in June 2016, following Seaspovill’s satisfaction with a pre-owned Austal vessel, Seastar 3, constructed in 1998. Incat Crowther said it worked with Seaspovill to develop the design of the vessel, offering improvements over an off-the-shelf production design.

Incat Designed Catamaran Ferry for Seaspovill

Incat Crowther announced contract to design a 50m Catamaran Passenger Ferry for South Korean operator Seaspovill. The vessel will join the operator’s existing fleet which runs from the mainland ports of Donghae and Gangneung to the island of Ulleung-do, a renowned destination for outdoor activities such as hiking. Incat Crowther worked with Seaspovill to develop the design of the vessel, and then assisted in the preparation of a preliminary design package and the selection of Austal Philippines to construct the vessel. During this process, Incat Crowther representatives attended operations with Seaspovill and performed detailed route operability analysis. The fully IMO HSC compliant vessel is optimized for through-life efficiency.

Joe Gregory, owner of New Generation Shipbulding of Houma, La., reports that his firm’s latest delivery will join the La Porte Texas-based Martin Marine fleet of 29 inland push boats and 54 inland marine tank barges. Martin also operates four offshore tug/barge units. The latest delivery, one of New Generation’s 75 X 30 X 10-ft. pushboat, is the Rex Dobson. With an operating draft of 8.5-ft. these towboats have a 32-ft. eye level from the wheelhouse. The wheelhouse has huge windows extending to the deck level forward and a full walk around exterior deck extension.

Comprehensive Winch Outfitting for New Trawlers

Fishing company HB Grandi of Iceland recently awarded Naust Marine a contract for complete winch outfitting of three new 180 ft. fishing trawlers. The contract, of record size for the winch supplier, will see Naust provide no less than 20 electrical winches per vessel, including two trawl winches and three Gilsons each; four sweep-line winches, one out-haul winch, one cod-end winch, two backstrap winches, three retriever winces, one third wire winch and one trix-winch, located close to the sweep line winches. In addition to these, there are two anchor-mooring winches.

MacGregor Delivers Major Winch for Korean Heavy Lift Barge

Following an order announced in October 2013, MacGregor, part of Cargotec delivered and commissioned 45 variable frequency drive (VFD) winches and a full control system for the recently completed heavy-lift crane barge Hyundai HLV-10000, one of the largest heavy lift vessels in the world. Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co Ltd, a subsidiary of Hyundai Heavy Industries, built the large floating crane to meet the increasing demands for heavyweight shipbuilding support activities, along with offshore lifting operations. "This delivery extends MacGregor's heavy lift vessel portfolio," says Francis Wong, Head of Sales and Marketing at Offshore Deck Machinery at MacGregor.

Naust Marine Wins Huge Winch Order

Hradfrystihusid Gunnvor (HG) and Vinnslustodin (VSV) recently awarded Naust Marine contracts to provide a complete suite of electric winches for their newbuild trawlers. Naust will supply no less than 29 winches per vessel, including three trawl winches and three Gilsons; six sweepline, two outhaul, two codend, four backstrap, three retriever and two net-lifting winches are included as auxiliaries. In addition to these, there is an anchor winch, a net reel, and—not widely known outside Europe—two winches of the trix type.

MacGregor Mooring Systems for Tender Rigs

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has won new contracts that will see electrically-driven versions of its mooring systems fitted to two new tender assist drilling rigs for Thailand-based Mermaid Maritime Public Company Limited. The Self-Erected Drilling Tender (Hull No. CMHI (JS)-151-1 and Hull No. CMHI (JS)-151-2) are under construction at China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co Ltd with delivery planned for 2016. The order was booked into third quarter 2014 order intake. MacGregor will provide each rig with an electrically-driven eight-point mooring system with a 95-tonne line pull, a 460-tonne brake holding capacity and a 1,400m x 64mm diameter wire drum capacity. MacGregor equipment deliveries are scheduled for June 2015.

Harley Marine NY Welcomes New Vessel

Harley Marine NY, a subsidiary of Harley Marine Services, took delivery of the river style push-boat, HMS Justice, from Conrad Shipyard of Morgan City, Louisiana. HMS Justice is the fifth vessel in this class and joins the New York fleet of two tugboats and four double hull petroleum barges. HMS Justice will provide petroleum barge transportation services in New York Harbor. Harley Marine has partnered with Conrad Shipyard to build a series of vessels. "The HMS Justice is a quality built vessel, a testament to the craftsmanship and skill of the shipyard. We look forward to a long relationship with Conrad with more vessels to come in the near future", reports Jonathan Mendes, interim General Manager of Harley Marine NY.

Rapp Hydema Hauls in the Research Vessel Market

Rapp Hydema has been supplying deck machinery to research vessels since 1977, but this global market recently became especially significant for the group. In 2002, in what would be a watershed project, Rapp Hydema was chosen to outfit the NOAA Fishery Survey Vessel (FSV) Oscar Dyson class of vessels. The first four ships in the class were being constructed at VT Halter Marine Shipyard. “That NOAA research vessel contract provided us with excellent exposure,” said Johann Sigurjonsson, President of Rapp Hydema U.S.

Rapp Electric Winches for New O’Hara Vessel

Rapp Hydema landed a contract for theoutfitting of the new trawler F/V Araho, a 185-ft. freezer-trawler being built for O’Hara Corporation at Eastern Shipbuilding in Pensacola, Fla. The owners had originally planned to retrofit the F/V Harvester Enterprise but instead opted for an outright newbuild. The new trawler build has potential to mark the first of several new trawler builds to replace aging hulls throughout the Alaskan trawl fleet. Tugboat 'Silver' Joins Harley Marine Gulf Fleet

This tug was built and delivered by Conrad Industries and is the sister vessel to Harley Marine Gulf’s tug, 'Lightning' (named after well-known cowboy movie '4-legged friends'). Both tugs are equipped with two Cummins K38M Tier II engines, along with Twin Disc MGX5321 reduction gears., while the 'Silver' is powered by two Cummins 85kw generators and is outfitted with Nabrico Hydro Electric winches. Cargotec's Wins €37 Million Order for 45 Electric Winches

Cargotec's MacGregor has won an order worth approximately €37 million for 45 electric winches from Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co. Ltd, in South Korea. The order will be booked in the fourth quarter 2013 order intake and the equipment is scheduled for delivery between the second and fourth quarter of 2014. The winches will be installed on Hyundai Heavy Industries' 10,000-metric-ton new heavy lift vessel, which will be one of the world's largest heavy lift ships designed to support shipbuilding activities and offshore lifting operations in international waters. cargotec.com

New Blyth Workcat for Baltic Survey Work

Finnish survey company FCG (Finnish Consulting Group) Ltd. has placed an order for a new GRP survey boat from Blyth Workcats Ltd of Canvey Island, U.K. The 14-meter catamaran will be known as the Nordic Sonar and it is now being built to meet the specialized needs of the FCG survey teams. It will be based in Turku, Finland and is being fitted with comprehensive heating system and insulation suitable for its use in the demanding conditions around the Finnish coast and the northern Baltic.

The maritime community in the United States has watched with interest as Harley Marine Services has expanded from the West Coast to the East and Gulf Coasts and now the Inland Waterways. Australia’s Largest Research Vessel Ready for Launch

At the end of 2013, the team of Sembawang Shipyard of Singapore and Teekay Shipping Australia will hand over the new scientific Research Vessel Investigator to her owners, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), an agency of the Federal Government of Australia. The Investigator will be among the most capable and quietest non-naval research vessels in the world. It will serve Australia in diverse scientific operations ranging over an area from the equator to the ice shelf of Antarctica and spanning almost 1/3rd of the circumference of the globe.
