USS George Washington Contract Awarded
Northrop Grumman Corporation was awarded a $35.6 million contract from the U.S. Washington (CVN 73). 2005 at the Newport News shipyard. an existing contract awarded last December. Newport News. "Work has been underway for several months. Nimitz-class aircraft built by Northrop Grumman Newport News. launched in 1990 and delivered to the Navy in 1992. displacement of 97,000 tons. It can travel in excess of 30 knots.
Lincoln Leaves San Diego, Begins TSTA

USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) wrapped up two weeks of training and certification with a scheduled port visit to Naval Air Station North Island July 22-24. Lincoln’s crew enjoyed two full days of liberty in the San Diego area while the ship took on personnel and equipment from Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 2 in preparation for the next phase of operations. Prior to the visit, Lincoln spent its first two weeks underway since completing sea trials and a nine-month Dry-dock Planned Incremental Availability at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Wash. Lincoln Heads to Sea Following Nine Months in Dry Dock
Over the course of the last nine months, USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) underwent several alterations, upgrades and installments, culminating in thousands of man hours and millions of dollars during its Dry-dock Planned Incremental Availability (DPIA) at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, Wash. As Lincoln headed back to sea, the DPIA came to a close on a high note June 26. “From a ship’s force work package perspective, the DPIA was a resounding success and greatly exceeded all expectations,†said Lt. Cmdr. Jim Pyle, Lincoln’s maintenance manager. The $260m overhaul and improvements to Lincoln were the combined effort of Lincoln’s Sailors and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Todd Pacific Shipyard, who were the primary contractors on the job.
NRD NW Holds Training Aboard Lincoln
USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) hosted Sailors from Naval Recruiting District (NRD) Portland for the district’s Biannual Recruiter In Charge (RINC) Conference April 9-13. The conference provided recruiters from the region with an opportunity to meet and discuss important issues facing their community, as well as to receive training and meet other recruiters from the district. “This represents an opportunity to get all my frontline supervisors from five states together and have them interact and share ideas,†said NRD Portland’s commanding officer, Cmdr. Caroline Nielson. Chief Navy Counselor Steve Schaljo said that about 40 Sailors, including RINCs, supervising officers and guest lecturers attended the conference which was held in Lincoln’s squadron ready rooms.
