President Joe Biden's administration will release as soon as Tuesday a study on exports of liquefied natural gas that is expected to stop short of saying the trade is not in the public interest, two industry sources with knowledge of the issue said.Biden in January paused the Department of Energy's approvals of U.S. LNG exports to big consumers in Asia and Europe in order for his administration to conduct the study on the environmental and economic impacts of the booming industry.President-elect Donald Trump opposed the pause and has said he would move quickly to overturn it.

Developer Seeks Permit to Process US Gas in Mexico

A Mexican energy developer is seeking U.S. permission to export gas to Mexico, turn it into liquefied natural gas (LNG) and send it to countries with U.S. free-trade agreements, its filing with the U.S. Department of Energy showed.Mexico-based Gato Negro Permitium Uno and partners including Houston-based Big River Energy plan to construct four LNG processing plants in Manzanillo on Mexico's Pacific coast to produce up to 4 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG, the company said.Gato Negro began the Mexican permitting process in June 2022, it said in the May 10 filing.

CNOOC Awards $2.4B Contracts for Construction of 12 LNG Carriers

Sinopec Rolls Out Beihai LNG-import Terminal

China Petroleum and Chemical Corp (Sinopec) has taken delivery of the first LNG cargo at its new terminal at Beihai City in Guangxi Zhuang, with the arrival yesterday of the LNG carrier Methane Spirit, delivering a cargo from ConocoPhillips-operated Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG)project in Australia. The cargo was delivered onboard the 160,000 cbm Methane Spirit LNG carrier, Sinopec said. Located in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, the facility is the second of five LNG terminals planned by Sinopec as China works to raise the proportion of natural gas in its energy consumption and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Tokyo Gas Completes Hitachi LNG Terminal

Japan’s Tokyo Gas has completed construction of its Hitachi LNG terminal in Hitachi Port area marking the start of operations. The LNG terminal is equipped with a 230,000-kilolitre LNG tank that can hold about 100,000-110,000 tons of chilled gas. The Hitachi terminal has already received three cargoes this year, one from Malaysia's Bintulu and two from Russia's Sakhalin, says sources. Hitachi terminal is company’s first LNG terminal, located outside Tokyo Bay. By completing Ibaraki-Tochigi line, Tokyo Gas now owns 950km of high pressure pipeline network mainly around Tokyo metropolitan area. Tokyo Gas also said that it plans to build a new LNG tank at the Sodegaura LNG terminal on Tokyo Bay.

Sinotrans to Build Five Arctic LNG Carriers

Sinotrans Shipping, one of China’s largest shipping companies, is in negotiations to take part in a joint venture to commission the building of five Arctic LNG carriers, says the company's stock market announcement. Sinotrans Shipping said it expects to take 25.5 percent of the shares in the joint venture without revealing any further information. Meanwhile, a report in Reuters said that China Merchants Energy Shipping, Sinotrans Shipping and Greek shipping firm Dynagas are in talks to form a joint venture to build five vessels to ship liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Arctic. According to the plan, the five vessels will be jointly invested by Dynagas (49%), CLNG (25.5%) and Sinotrans Shipping (25.5%). Total price of the vessels is about $158.7m.

LNG Terminal in Poland Will be Ready This Year

Świnoujście terminal which is designed to reduce Poland’s dependence on natural gas imported from Russia will be completed by the end of the year, Polskie LNG, a company designed to conduct the investment, informed in a press release. Poland's liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Świnoujście will receive its first cargo of the chilled gas by the end of 2015. However, the terminal on the Baltic Sea will be ready for commercial exploitation in the second quarter of 2016. Gaz-System’s unit Polskie LNG, which is building the import terminal, said it had reached an agreement with Italian company Saipem, the main contractor of the scheme, which was due to be carried out last year.

Indonesia’s $2.8 billion Donggi-Senoro LNG project has shipped its first cargo of the chilled gas on August 2, Mitsubishi Corp, which holds about 45 percent of the project, stated. The $2.9 billion project, with LNG production capacity of 2 million-tonne-per-year (mtpa), is one of several major gas infrastructure projects that the country hopes will meet mushrooming energy demands at home and around the region. After 4.5 years of development, the LNG plant operation started June 24 and the first LNG shipment was made to Indonesia's state energy firm Pertamina's Arun LNG receiving terminal, Mitsubishi, which holds around 45 percent of the project, said in a statement.

Qatar to Hit Full LNG Export Capacity

According to a report from Reuters, LNG exporter Qatar will reach full export capacity of 77 million tons per year by the end of 2011, the head of the state oil marketing company said.
