Interior Facelift for Queen Mary 2

Cunard’s luxurious flagship, the iconic 2,620 passenger ocean liner Queen Mary 2, will undergo an interior refit at the hands of McCue Marine during a 25-day multimillion-pound dry-dock at the Blohm & Voss Shipyard in Hamburg, Germany between May 27 and June 21, 2016.

McCue, who secured a contract to remaster areas of the ship, will upgrade the Queen’s Grill and Princess Grill restaurants, in addition to the Queen’s Grill Lounge.

“We will be involved in fitting out some of the most prestigious public areas on the vessel,” said Stephen Mills, business development manager at McCue Marine. “Particular attention has been paid to take inspiration from the original Queen Mary, enhancing the existing designs and emphasizing the feeling of understated elegance that Queen Mary 2 is renowned for.”

“The former Todd English Restaurant will be remastered into The Verandah Restaurant, a private dining area for foodie guests wanting something with an alternative twist. The interiors will reflect the original Verandah found on Cunard’s Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth ships, staying true to their classic art deco heritage, while offering updated, crisp, contemporary interiors.”

McCue Crafted Fit entered the ship refurbishment market with the launch of McCue Marine in 2014 and has built upon its fit out experience on land and taken it to sea. McCue said its wealth of ‘high street’ fit out experience was also a key factor in securing an extensive remodeling in one of the outlets in the Mayfair shop area onboard on Deck Three to house designer brands for fine jewelry and watches.

Mills added, “To ensure that work is completed within this very tight frame, one of the client’s prerequisites was that new bespoke fixtures and fittings contain a mixture of timber veneers, marble, glass and architectural metalwork – which can be preassembled offsite to allow for a fast installation on board. McCue’s 60,000-square-foot production facility in Carrickfergus certainly met that mark.”
