Fourth Online ECDIS Familiarization Course Released

January 16, 2013

Following the release of the third online course, Hamburg-based online training specialist, Safebridge, has now released its ECDIS familiarization training package for the Transas Navi-Sailor 4000.

Using the Navi-Sailor software running in real time, the content follows the requirements set by the various Flag States and provides 16-18 hours of study followed by an online test. A manufacturer-approved certificate is delivered immediately and automatically upon successful test completion. A completed IMO 1.27 generic training is a pre-requisite to the Safebridge online ECDIS familiarization training.

At 185 Euros for a single log-in, the Safebridge training represents a cost-effective and highly flexible alternative to classroom training, as it also eliminates all travel and accommodation costs whilst allowing a three-week window from first log-in to complete the course and the test. Discount opportunities are available for fleet training or prepaid packages.

“As the program for the mandatory carriage of ECDIS progresses and more information is emerging from Port State Control checks, the need for effective, available and accessible ECDIS familiarization training is becoming ever more apparent,” says Ulf Steden, Managing Director of Safebridge. “This latest release increases our ability to meet the market’s needs for one of the major ECDIS manufacturers and we will be adding to our portfolio again in the very near future.”

As the ECDIS manufacturer, Transas takes the responsibility for training seriously and puts a lot of effort into assisting the industry to get the best, high-quality, training solutions for compliance with the international standards and to be able to utilize the full ECDIS functionality. Transas was the first manufacturer to be recognized by the German Hydrographic and Maritime Agency as a commercial training provider.

“The Safebridge online type-specific training courseware is a great contribution to our portfolio of ECDIS training courses. Today, Transas offers all types of ECDIS Training and having the possibility to train online gives even more flexibility to our customers,” comments Norman Geier, Training Manager, Transas Marine.

Course bookings can be made via the Safebridge website, where corporate clients with fleet bookings can manage the training development of their officers from within their corporate account, allocating courses to individual officers progressively.

Safebridge is developing courseware for a further four leading ECDIS manufacturers and these will be released over the coming months. Full details can be found on our website under “Products.”
