Bay Electronics NOAA Vessel Subcontract Award
Bay Electronics Inc. announced they have been awarded a subcontract from Fincantieri's Marinette Marine Corporation shipyard in Wisconsin.
Bay Electronics Inc. will provide design services, equipment and technical support for an Integrated Bridge System, Navigation System, Radio Communication System and Master Clock System. Bay Electronics was one of three Suppliers that competed for this project in the construction of a new fisheries survey vessel.
FSV-6
This $1.3 million dollar contract is for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Hull FSV-6, currently under construction at the Marinette Marine Shipyard. The ships mission is to provide scientific data from weather forecasts and climate monitoring, to fisheries management, and to support marine commerce. The ship will serve the Southwest Fisheries Science Center and be home ported in San Diego, Calif.
The vessel is a new class ship for NOAA and can operate in all weather conditions. The FSV-6 will be equipped with a full suite of modern instrumentation for fisheries and oceanographic research, including advanced navigation systems, multi-frequency acoustic sensors, direct sampling gear and extensive laboratories.
The Integrated Bridge System will control all shipboard functions, including propulsion, by integrating all external equipment into the control system.
The Control System will allow the DPS to have complete control of the Ship's main propulsion system, rudder, and bow thruster, thus allowing the operator to keep the ship on station or on course while underway in any sea condition.
The Communications System allows the ship to communicate via multiple sources including broadband satellite and various Inmarsat terminals as well as standard radio equipment.
Par to the Communication System is the GMDSS System. GMDSS is a fail safe emergency communications safety system that will send out ship location and distress information automatically.
The Dynamic Positioning System utilizes external sensor inputs such as; the wind direction and speed sensors, Inertial guidance system, ships gyro system, DGPS system, Doppler Speed system and more all supplied by Bay Electronics Inc.
