Norway Discusses the Future of DP
Representatives from Norway’s shipbuilding industry recently gathered in Ålesund for a Dynamic Positioning (DP) sensor technologies workshop held by Sonardyne International Ltd., Guidance Marine and Veripos.
Vessel operators, shipyards, dynamic positioning suppliers and system integrators from across the region gathered to discover the latest advances in Position Monitoring Equipment (PME) and discuss the future requirements of the industry.
The one day event consisted of presentations from each company, individual hands-on technical sessions on current system usability and a forum that discussed future capability, looking at what the dynamic positioning reference system of the future should be able to achieve. Along with discussions about the benefits and independency offered by acoustically aided INS systems, feedback throughout the day focussed on general concepts of operation and user requirements.
“This is the third in our series of DP technology seminars with Guidance Marine and Veripos and they continue to be incredibly popular,” said Mark Carter, Sonardyne Global Business Manager – DP and Drilling. “These sessions are providing us with valuable feedback about the performance of current generation systems and opinions on concepts that are emerging from our research and development teams.”
