Cole Hersee Announces FlexMod Low Voltage Disconnect Switches

September 16, 2011

Cole Hersee Company, a manufacturer of heavy-duty electrical and electronic products for the vehicle industry, announced the availability of its new FlexMod™ LVD, a family of configurable electronic modules that protect batteries and battery powered equipment.

FlexMod LVD ensures that vehicles will start by controlling non-essential loads that can kill a battery. The module is ideal for those with fleets of emergency vehicles, delivery vehicles, boats, buses or utility trucks. The FlexMod LVD automatically shuts down non-essential loads when the battery runs low, and automatically restores the non-essential loads when the battery power returns to normal levels. Typical applications include idle reduction for work vehicles, NFPA 1901 Load Manager compliance for fire vehicles, combined timer/voltage shutoff for police vehicles, and smart charging system for boats.

The FlexMod family has two inputs (one analog and one digital) and two solid state outputs (one 10A, one 200mA) that can be programmed to do almost any job. Several standard units have been created to specific application needs, including the 48610 Electronic Low Voltage Disconnect which preserves battery charge and protects battery banks; the 48636 Electronic Timer for Interior Lighting, which prevents the internal lights inside a vehicle from being left on and draining the battery; the 48540 Smart Battery Isolator Controller, which monitors two battery banks and controls one or more relays or contactors to protect starting power; and the 48541 Electronic Voltage Sensing Relay & Timer, which monitors both battery voltage and ignition status, shutting down non-critical loads when the cutoff voltage is reached. Custom parameters can be programmed into one of the off-shelf modules at the Cole Hersee factory.
