Oceana Yard’s First Newbuild Delivered

The new Oceana shipyard in Itajai, Brazil has delivered its first newbuild, a platform supply vessel of the PX105 design from Ulstein Group. The vessel was delivered to shipowner Oceana Offshore on March 30, 2016, and on April 1, the vessel started on a six-year chart for Petrobras.

A sister vessel is also under construction at the yard, and is scheduled for completion within the end of Q2 this year.

In his speech on the occasion of the naming ceremony in March 2016, yard manager Paul Kempers stressed the beauty of the vessel and the good cooperation between Ulstein and the yard in order to complete this high-quality ship. “During her sea trial, I received several reports from the engineers and the Captain on the excellent results in speed, fuel consumption and sea keeping,” Kempers said.

For the second ship, using the experience gained from the CBO Oceana, Kempers is convinced that the construction process will be a smooth one.

The PX105 design is a large PSV design, suitable for work in the Brazilian oil industry.

The vessels are 88.9 meters long and 19 meters wide and has accommodation for 23 people. With a DWT of 4,700 metric tons they comply with Petrobras’ PSV 4500 tender. 

These vessels have a high operational window and can take on complex assignments far from shore. They come with the X-BOW hull line design feature, in which slamming and abrupt stops from waves are minimized. The vessels are cost-effective and fuel-saving, and the crews get more efficient rest, which also increase safety.

The size and versatility of these vessels make them suitable for many markets and operations

The Ulstein contract with Oceana includes designs and an extended main equipment package, as well as engineering and purchase support.

Oceana Offshore S.A. is funded by the investment and engineering partners P2 Brazil and BNDES. Itajai is situated in the region of Santa Catarina, which is a maritime cluster of yards and related businesses.
