Liebherr Container Cranes has recently signed a contract for the supply of two ship to shore container cranes to Flinders Adelaide Container Terminal in South Australia.

The container cranes were purchased as part of a 30-year strategic plan to boost service levels at the Port Adelaide Terminal. The cranes have an operational outreach of 50m and a safe working load of 65 metric tons under twin lift spreader and 80 metric tons under hook beam. The lift height over rail is 38 m, the span is 25.3 m and the back reach is 20 m.

General Manager of Flinders Adelaide Container Terminal, Peter Cheers, commented, “We conducted rigorous supplier evaluations as part of our procurement process and assessed this in-line with our long-run planning for the terminal. The post-panamax Liebherr cranes were the best match for our requirements and will allow us to maximize the flow-on benefits for our customers.”

The investment in the cranes is part of a series of upgrades at the port that aim to put Port Adelaide on the map as a world class container facility with an annual projected throughput of 700,000 TEU’ sand will allow for increased vessel turnaround at the port.
