September 17, 2018

Belle Chasse, La. based shipbuilder C&C Marine and Repair has delivered the third vessel in a series of four new towboats for Marquette Transportation Company.

Delivery of the new vessel, a 6,600-horsepower, 160’ x 50’ triple-screw z-drive towboat named m/v Jerry Jarrett, comes four months after delivery of the series’ second towboat, m/v Chris Reeves, and seven months after the first, m/v Cindy L. Erickson.

Following delivery of the second vessel, Marquette exercised an option for a fourth towboat, which is scheduled for delivery this December.

The vessels were designed by CT Marine, based in Portland, Maine. The design includes three Cummins QSK60-M main engines that are paired to three Steerprop SP25D azimuthing z-drive thrusters. The triple azimuthing z-drive configuration allows for optimal speed, power and maneuverability. In addition, the z-drives operate at lower engine loads to boost fuel efficiency, the builder said.

The vessels each offer accommodations for 13 crewmembers. The vessels’ superstructures are each supported on a bed of springs for added crew comfort, and a soft-core jointer system was installed in the accommodation spaces for additional comfort and fire safety.
