Bordelon Begins Campaign to Fight Breast Cancer
Bordelon Marine has committed to a yearlong campaign to fight breast cancer that will see the company donate a portion of profits from its ship, the M/V Shelia Bordelon, to the New Orleans affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. In support of this partnership, Bordelon Marine will also participate in the New Orleans Race for the Cure on October 25 with the Shelia Bordelon team.
The MV Shelia Bordelon, which features a pink stripe along with the Susan G. Komen New Orleans logo, is the second vessel from the new Stingray series 260’ Class DP2. All the Stingray vessels will be built at Bordelon Marine Shipbuilders. The second and third Stingray vessels are currently under construction with delivery dates of Q1 2015 and Q3 2015, respectively.
“Some of you may be wondering, ‘Who is Shelia Bordelon?” said Wes Bordelon, president and CEO of Bordelon Marine. “Well, no one, actually. Shelia’s last name is actually Harasimowicz, and she is my mother-in-law. Through the years, all of our vessels have traditionally been named after a Bordelon family member. This time, the family member happens to be from the other side of the family. Rather than break the tradition, Shelia volunteered to take on an alias! Whatever name she goes by, she is still a huge part of our family, and we are proud to have her name on this vessel. Shelia is a strong and amazing person with a heart as big as this boat.”
Bordelon continued, “About 11 years ago, Shelia was diagnosed with breast cancer. She received treatment and after a long battle, was eventually diagnosed cancer free. This was a great day for everyone in our family. I wish this was where the story ended, but a few months ago the cancer reappeared. Shelia is currently undergoing chemotherapy and battling cancer once again. Please join with us to provide much needed support. You can do thus through a donation of money or your time.
