Baltic Index Edges Down

The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index fell for the sixth straight session on Monday, dragged down by softer demand across vessel segments.

* The overall index, which tracks rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, fell 8 points, or 0.6 percent, to 1,333 points. The index fell 7.2 percent last week.

* The capesize index fell 10 points, or 0.5 percent, to end at 2,001 points. The index fell 9.5 percent last week.

* Average daily earnings for capesizes, which typically transport 170,000-180,000 tonne cargoes such as iron ore and coal, fell by $62 to $16,430.

* The panamax index slipped 16 points, or 1.2 percent, to 1,339 points.

* The index fell 9.4 percent for last week, registering its biggest weekly fall since early April.

* Average daily earnings for panamaxes, which usually carry coal or grain cargoes of about 60,000 to 70,000 tonnes, decreased $124 to $10,772.

* The supramax index was down seven points at 1,085 points.
