More than 90 percent of the construction works of the Pirshagi Wastewater Treatment Plant, funded by the Government of Azerbaijan and the Korea Export-Import Bank, has been completed.

According to Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO), this facility is the first modern wastewater treatment plant in Azerbaijan developed on the basis of new technologies.

Given that 400 m of the exhaust line of the Pirshagi Wastewater Treatment Plant was installed on land, and a part with a length of 1300 m – at the sea, a route along the sea bottom was determined in advance. ASCO specialized vessels carried out dredging operations and successfully completed their task.

Dredging operations were carried out on the digging vessel “Muhandis B. Mammadov” and the transport ships “Bakinskaya-3”, “Bakinskaya-5” and “Bakinskaya-6”. In addition, the “Absheronskaya-5” towing vessel and the “Orion 12” diving vessel were also involved in the work.

The volume of dredging in the Pirshagi drilling area was 216,650 m3.

In the drilling zone, the “Zulfu Hajiyev” crane vessel assisted in the installation of a guide pile, as well as pipes with a length of 1630 meters and a diameter of 1620 x 14 mm, transported from Hovsan to the territory of Pirshagi. 1 vessel of the “Neftegaz” type, 2 vessels of the “Garadag” type, 3 vessels of the “BMK” type, 1 vessel of the “Orion” type and 1 vessel of the “SOCAR-1” type were involved in this process.

The complex will prevent the discharge of wastewater generated in the vast territory in the northeast of the Absheron Peninsula into the Caspian Sea. Wastewater from the villages of Kurdakhany, Pirshagi, Mashtaga, Bilgah, Nardaran, Mahammedi, Digah, Mehtiabad, Goradil, Fatmai and Novkhani will be treated here. The project is of particular importance in terms of ensuring the environmental safety of the Caspian Sea.
