Bulker Arrives to US on Her Maiden Voyage
The Port of Vancouver USA welcomed the Kypros Unity, commanded by Capt. Wilfredo F. Itable of Cyprus, on her maiden voyage Oct. 28.
Capt. Itable and his 20-member Filipino crew were welcomed to Vancouver by Keith Anderson and Curtis Williams of United Grain Corp., Beth Sanchez of Transmarine Navigation, and Ken Mishler of the Port of Vancouver.
The Kypros Unity is a Panama bulk carrier built in Japan and launched on Sept. 26, 2014. She is owned by Gloverthree Shipping Corp., chartered by Mitsui & Co. Ltd. and operated by Safety Management Overseas S.A.
The vessel is 738 feet long and has a deadweight capacity of 78,056 metric tons.
Before calling the Port of Vancouver, the Kypros Unity stopped in Busan, South Korea, to take on fuel. Now that she’s berthed in Vancouver, the vessel will load approximately 64,000 metric tons of soybeans.
Agricultural products, including soybeans, wheat and corn, are the Port of Vancouver’s top exports by weight. The port has exported 278,014 metric tons of soybeans so far this year, mainly to Asia.
The Kypros Unity is scheduled to depart from the Port of Vancouver on Oct. 31. Her final destination on her maiden voyage is China.
