AWT Appoints New CEO Haydn Jones

Seasoned Maritime Executive Has Deep Industry Experience and Strong Focus on Ship Efficiency Systems.
 
 

Applied Weather Technology, Inc. (AWT) appointed Haydn Jones as Chief Executive Officer. From AWT’s headquarters in the Silicon Valley, Jones will lead AWT’s 10 offices to deliver industry leading products and services to the company’s 800 shipping clients. Most recently, Jones served as AWT’s director of international operations, overseeing sales, marketing and business development. He is also a member of the parent company board of directors.

“Ship operators are tasked with finding improved ship efficiencies, and they continue to look to AWT to help them achieve that goal,” said AWT Chairman Jung Soo Kang. “With Haydn’s expertise in navigation, communications and ship systems, along with his strong customer focus, AWT has the right leadership to bring innovative collaboration within the maritime industry to achieve greater ship efficiency and integration with bridge systems.”


On his appointment Jones stated, “AWT has a powerful reputation that is recognized internationally within the marine industry. The company has excellent staff across administration, operations, R & D, marketing and sales within the USA and throughout our global network of sales and customer support offices. The company is well-known for both ship routing advisory services to shore based managers and for its Bon Voyage System onboard weather and route planning software. With the world fleet continuing to grow, and a strengthening demand for cost-efficient and environmentally friendly ship operations, I am confident that AWT’s maritime weather and ship routing skills will continue to be of high value to our customers in commercial and passenger shipping and other maritime sectors. I am very happy indeed to take on the challenge of building the business still further and ensuring excellent delivery of and improvement to the products and services for our customers.”


Prior to joining AWT in early 2013, Jones held the role of marketing director and business development manager for Fugro Satellite Positioning of Oslo. His management career also included strategic management positions with Nera Ltd., the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office, and ChartCo Ltd., a valued AWT business partner. Jones began his work in the marine industry following his graduation from the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, UK, working as a deck officer on a range of warships. While at sea he also taught navigation and bridge-watch-keeping duties to officer cadets.
