Seabourn Names New Cruise Ships

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

January 30, 2015

Seabourn Encore and Seabourn Ovation will be the names of new ships joining the fleet of luxury cruise line Seabourn in late 2016 and spring 2018.  Both are part of the line's Odyssey class, and the expansion will bring the total number of ships in the class to five.

The new 40,350-tonne passenger vessels are expected to carry 604 passengers each, with every suite featuring a private balcony.

Seabourn Encore ill offer elegant, contemporary spaces designed by noted hospitality designer Adam Tihany, including an airy main dining room and a version of the club-like social hub called Seabourn Square found on other Seabourn ships.

It will be about 26% larger than the three Odyssey Class ships that Seabourn has rolled out since 2009, but it'll hold about 34% more passengers, based on double occupancy. As a result, it'll have about 6% less space per passenger.

"Both words, Encore and Ovation, pay tribute to the tremendous success and outstanding accomplishments our current ships have achieved," said Seabourn President Richard Meadows. "They are perfect names to celebrate Seabourn's expanding fleet."

Seabourn said it would reveal further details about the ships over coming months. Seabourn offers wide-ranging and far-flung itineraries, sailing to every continent apart from Antarctica and offering port calls in both marquee cities and more off the beaten path destinations.
