The steel cutting ceremony of the first project designed with the FORAN system by CIMC Ocean Engineering Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd. (CIM ORIC) was held in the Chinese shipyard Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard Co., Ltd. on September 23.

CIMC ORIC is a subsidiary company of the Group CIMC which is dedicated to research on ship design and marine equipment. CIMC ORIC implemented the FORAN system in December 2015.

After receiving FORAN training from SENER (Shanghai) Systems Co., Ltd., CIMC ORIC started to use FORAN to design a 1004 TEU container vessel. FORAN was used for all design stages of this vessel from the initial design to production design, and it was used in all disciplines including Hull forms generation, NA calculation, Hull structure design, Outfitting design and Electrical design. The manager from the CIMC ORIC management department comments that it has been a good challenge for the design team because it is the first project with FORAN and the design schedule was very tight.

With a close collaboration between CIMC ORIC design team and SENER (Shanghai) Systems Co. Ltd., support team, the project was carried out smoothly and met the schedule. CIMC ORIC benefited from using the FORAN system throughout all the design process.

On September 23, the shipyard Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard Co., Ltd. held the steel cutting ceremony with the participation of leaders from the shipyard, the company Jungerhans, CIMC ORIC and DNV-GL.
