GPE Secures MARS Tanker Power Contract
Gresham Power Electronics (GPE), the Salisbury-based defence and commercial power conversion specialist, has secured a £1.18 million order to supply uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems to be fitted to Military Afloat Reach and Sustainability (MARS) tankers currently being built by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME).
To be delivered to the U.K. MoD, each MARS tanker requires a total complement of eight UPS systems of various power ratings. DSME are building four MARS tankers to support Type 45 Destroyers while at sea. These will be tasked with providing fuel, food, fresh water, ammunition and other supplies in support of the Type 45 destroyer. Gresham Power has already provided a wide range of power conversion and distribution equipment to the Type 45 Destroyer fleet.
Jake Moir, Managing Director of Gresham Power Electronics, commented, “After nine months of hard work by us and our Korean partner C&A Electric we are very pleased to have secured this important contract. This order will be a major part of our forward order book for the next two years and provide us with a platform to develop further new products for customers worldwide. Our defence business continues to grow and we now have export customers in markets that include Spain, France, Australia, India and now Korea.”
