Center in Nova Scotia will focus on rapidly delivering new technologies and capabilities to the Royal Canadian Navy as they transition to future fleet.

General Dynamics Canada announced the opening of the 17th EDGE facility in the EDGE Innovation Network. The new Undersea Warfare EDGE Innovation Centre in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, will become a vital resource that brings Canada’s top naval technology suppliers together with academia and government to develop leading-edge, operation-enhancing capabilities for the Royal Canadian Navy and ally naval fleets around the world as they look to reestablish critical capability in the face of new threats.

The Undersea Warfare EDGE facility will harness capabilities and technologies that enhance relationships with Canadian small businesses, expand national supply chains and position Canadian industry to meet the Navy’s needs while promoting a continuous lifecycle of innovation.  The immediate focus will be on meeting Canada’s defence and security needs for the Canadian Surface Combatant, as well as across the entire spectrum of undersea warfare, including Canada’s Arctic domain.

The Centre is located within General Dynamics Canada’s state-of-the-art 46,000 square-foot facility in Nova Scotia, close to key Canadian military naval and air bases. This unique, open environment facility encourages military personnel to visit and engage with the EDGE team and its global members to experiment first-hand with advanced technologies and products. The Centre will feature the latest sensor technology, novel signal processing and display techniques; advances in automatic detection and classification, multi-sensor integration for maximum situational awareness; and integrated undersea warfare training systems.

“We are honoured to sponsor the latest EDGE Innovation Centre in our facility in Nova Scotia,” said David Ibbetson, vice president of General Dynamics C4 Systems International.  “Each EDGE member brings to the partnership unique perspectives and experiences as well as their expertise.  This combination helps to rapidly bring to market innovative solutions that can be applied at home as well as exported to the world. Participating in the EDGE is especially helpful for small businesses, as it gives them an unprecedented platform to showcase their innovation and capability on the international stage.”
