As reported in a Maritime Reporter and Engineering News February 2022 article, Offshore Wind Development Gains Speed in the United States, the offshore wind (OSW) market is beginning to heat up. The White House policy target of 30 GW of offshore wind power by 2030, increasing the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s (BOEM’s) leasing awards, and permitting target approval dates, together with more state energy procurement awards, are creating demand for more port infrastructure, Jones Act compliant vessels, and manufacturing facilities for wind farm components.

Coast Guard Investigating Mysterious Sheen in Brunswick, Ga.

Authorities are working to track down the source of a recurring mystery sheen emanating from the bank of the East River in Brunswick, Ga.The U.S. Coast Guard said Friday its Marine Safety Unit (MSU) Savannah personnel have been conducting an investigation since February 2019 to identify the source of the sheen across multiple waterfront properties.Hard boom and absorbent materials have been placed around the discharge sites to recover any product that enters the water as the source of the sheen remains unknown at this time. Project NEPTUNES: Noise Control in Port

Upcoming Project NEPTUNES is set to offer a best practices guide for ports on measuring, labelling and mitigating noise emissions of vessels at ports.Up until today, there is a noticeable absence of any universal measurement protocol for the quantification of noise performance of ships in port. Nor is there any recorded information or standardised data regarding noise or nuisance in and around ports.The information that is available varies enormously and is rarely translated into concrete measures to mitigate that noise.Frank Wolkenfelt, one of Project NEPTUNES' key program participants takes up the story: "The aim is to really place vessel noise on the table as another emission.

NYMH Executes Purchase Contract

NYMET Holdings Inc. (PINKSHEETS: NYMH), a metals and mining company headquartered in Port Jefferson, N.Y., announced the successful execution of a Lease Purchase Contract to acquire a marine salvage and storage facility located in Stockton, Calif. The acquisition, which includes two waterfront parcels, as well as riparian rights, provides NYMET a strategic location to expand their Marine Salvage Division for scrap metal recovery. The property, located on the waterfront of the San Joaquin River, in Stockton, Calif. will provide NYMET the ability to process and transport scrap metal derived from the salvage and ship breaking opportunities available on the west coast of North America. The facility provides access to the Delta waterway as well as the ability to park salvage barges.
